Job Description:

As the Operations Manager, you’ll be responsible for the company's daily operation from negotiating office leases to ensuring successful and timely product delivery to customers and everything in between. This role offers ample opportunities to take ownership, make a meaningful impact, and grow with the company.

At a high level, you will:

  • Focus on every detail necessary for a smooth, lean, efficient and successful operation of the company
  • Execute on company strategy and deliver quarter-to-quarter results based on agreed-upon milestones
  • Identify and mitigate any potential risks and problems before they even become a problem
  • Provide team leadership
  • Work directly with the CEO and ensure what needs to get done gets done


Operations Management:

  • Manage company infrastructure (office space, utilities, IT, etc.)
  • Manage risks (e.g. appropriate insurance coverage, compliance with regulations)
  • Manage and coordinate any outsourced functions
  • Manage and optimize company resources
  • Procurement of supplies and equipment
  • Prepare quarterly management and company updates
  • Responsible for customer relations, acting as the first point of contact for existing customers

Project Management:

  • Manage engineering and R&D projects to ensure deliveries and milestones are met
  • Oversee projects to ensure successful and timely delivery to customers
  • Organize and coordinate activities and resources in collaboration with the teams' managers
  • Oversee quality reviews of deliverables in line with company and client requirements
  • Assess workloads to support teams when defining the scope
  • Effectively communicate with team members to inform them of project status and progress
  • Ensure we have sufficient resources with the right skills to deliver our projects
  • Evaluate risks, impacts and consequences
  • Break down complex problems, facilitate meetings to find solutions, document results and provide actionable insights while working in a dynamic environment

Finance & Accounting:

  • Work with bookkeeper and accountants to get financial information entered in a timely fashion and ensure correctness and accuracy of financial records
  • Prepare, review and share quarterly financial reports
  • Implement appropriate level of controls to mitigate risks (e.g. purchasing, expenses)
  • Ensure compliance with all reporting requirements (government, investors, etc)
  • Track and ensure timely payment of all bills and invoices
  • Set budgets, plan and manage burn rate
  • Identify grant funding opportunities, as well as application preparation and submission

Human Resources:

  • Implement recruiting process, develop hiring pipeline, prepare job descriptions, interview candidates, and onboarding of new hires
  • Identification of roles, responsibilities, and job structure
  • Performance management - identify and use metrics to help teams & individuals improve and grow
  • Identify appropriate training and growth opportunities for employees
  • Gather and maintain up-to-date industry salary and compensation data for benchmarking
  • Oversee employee benefits plan
  • Responsible for legal matters pertaining to HR: e.g. hiring, employment agreements, termination letters, HR policies, etc.
  • Help shape and maintain the team and company culture as we scale


  • Work with the engineering team and patent lawyers to file patent and provisional applications
  • Assist with general corporate governance
  • Responsible for contracts and proposal related to operations (suppliers, customers, office lease, etc.)

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Relevant education and background in engineering, accounting, business or law
  • 2 to 7 years of experience in a similar role or a role with skills that are directly transferable to operations management
  • Ability to read, interpret, and negotiate agreements and contract
  • Familiar with financial and accounting concepts and tools
  • Familiar with project management best practices and software
  • Very strong communication and writing skills (e.g. writing proposal or funding applications)
  • Ability to balance shifting short-term priorities and long-term goals
  • Able to perform well under high-pressure situations
  • A highly collaborative, attentive, empathetic, and solution-oriented spirit
  • Excellent time management, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Great attention to detail while demonstrating critical thinking, curiosity, resourcefulness, and plenty of flexibility
  • Passionate about driving the industry into the digital future

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in operations is a huge asset
  • Prior experience working at a start-up
  • Knowledge/experience in the manufacturing industry.
  • Demonstrated understanding of scheduling and change management processes
